Behind the build
Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II
In 1990 Mercedes-Benz built just 502 road cars of the 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II so it could race the car in the German touring car championship, known as DTM. Racing rules said the race car had to be based on a road car, so the street version got the same huge adjustable rear wing and wide, boxy fenders. Its 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine made about 235 horsepower. The race cars won the 1992 DTM title, and the road car is now one of the most collectible Mercedes of its time.
